The lowdown on Canadian movie, TV downloads

Many Canadians are grudgingly resigned to the fact that we often get technology long after our neighbours to the south - TiVo, iPhone and Slingbox, for example - and so, too, we've only begun to see downloadable movie services in the Great White North nearly a decade after they debuted in the U.S.

Two new online movie services recently debuted in Canada: Bell launched its Bell Video Store at the end of May, followed by a movies channel at Apple's Canadian iTunes store two weeks later.

Both services offer hundreds of films for purchase or rent (or both, in some cases), which is ideal for those who like to shop 24/7 without leaving the house, plus a laptop's battery lasts longer when the film you're watching is on a hard drive, as opposed to a spinning disc.
