BELL ISLAND , N.L. — Early-morning house fires in two provinces claimed the lives of six people Saturday, including three young children in Newfoundland and Labrador, whose loss left their tiny community reeling.
A five-year-old boy, his seven-year-old sister and their five-year-old cousin, were killed in a raging fire that stunned residents of the family's close-knit island community in Newfoundland's Conception Bay.
Three bodies - thought to be those of a couple in their eighties and a woman in her fifties - were found following a fire in Quebec's Laurentians region.
"We hope it's them but we can't confirm it at the moment," said police spokesman Marc Butz.
